A promising technology to make clean and meat-free organic products

Billionaires Richard Branson and Bill Gates have teamed up to invest in a new startup that can grow “clean meat.” According to Bloomberg, Memphis Meats produces beef, duck, and chicken meats directly from animal cells without having to raise then slaughter cattle or poultry.

The way conventional meat is produced today creates challenges for the environment, animal welfare and human health. These are problems that everyone wants to solve.

This bold action is helping humans tackle challenges to the environment, and ensure cruelty-free meat at the same time.

The investment pool is headed up by Cargill, Inc. who have pumped funds into a promising technology to make clean meat from self-producing animal cells. The innovative method is in direct response to rising consumer demand for protein that’s not reliant on feed, land, and water.

According to reports, the latest fundraising round was led by venture-capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ), who is attuned to arranging to fundraise for innovative new startups, and for bringing in high-profile investors like Gates and Branson.

“I’m thrilled to have invested in Memphis Meats,” Branson told Bloomberg News. “I believe that in 30 years or so we will no longer need to kill any animals and that all meat will either be clean or plant-based and will taste the same and also be much healthier for everyone.”

Experts claim that a move like this from one of the world’s largest agriculture giants is a step in the right direction, especially as millennials are moving away from eating meat and the public response to cruelty-free meat.

The surging demand for organic products and meat-free diets is growing at a rapid rate in the United States, and more companies are gearing their operations toward a more environmentally and animal-friendly outcome.

“The world loves to eat meat, and it is core to many of our cultures and traditions,” Uma Valeti, co-founder and chief executive officer of Memphis Meats, said “The way to conventional meat-free is creating challenges for the environment, animal welfare, and human health. These are problems that everyone wants to solve.”

We recently revealed how Bill Gates invested in a similar project where scientists created the Impossible Burger, a new vegetarian alternative for meat-free has been developed at a molecular level to produce the exact taste, look, texture, smell, and nutritional value of beef.

Experts from Impossible Foods created proteins, amino acids, fats, and vitamins from plants. Following five years of development, the creators found that by using wheat and potato proteins, coconut oil and critical nutrients, along with a “magic ingredient” of Heme, the product inherits the exact and distinct attributes of beef.

By using only plant products, Impossible Foods claims it will dramatically “reduce the resources needed to feed the world’s population and free land for wildlife and biodiversity.”

Meat farming is estimated to produce around “25% of global freshwater use” – clean meat production is set to eliminate these negative outputs. The latest meat-free farming methods are most certainly a bold action that will hopefully lead humanity toward a healthier and friendlier lifestyle.

Wearable Tech Blocks Sexual Assault

New innovative wearable personal safety technology is helping the fight against sexual assault and rape on college campuses, creating a bold impact in women’s safety.

We recently revealed how the International Data Corporation (IDC) reported that there were more than 101.9 million wearable devices sold in 2016.

NBC News reports that the Intrepid Smart Sticker can detect if clothing is being removed on an unconscious victim and can alert emergency services of unwanted activity.

According to official figures, one-in-five women are raped or sexually assaulted while at college, and bold ideas like the Intrepid Smart Sticker are aiming to combat the problem with the help of technology.

“A victim is unable to stand up for themselves and we want to cater to those kind of situations,” Manisha Mohan, Intrepid developer, said.

The stickers connect to a smartphone app which can contact five people close to the victim in case of an emergency; 911 can also be added as a callout feature.

Intrepid is not the only company that is taking charge in the fight against sexual assault, especially for women. For example, the Roar Athena is a wearable that can alert trusted contacts with a person’s location and status. Another device, the Revolar Instinct, is a keychain-like device with a button to send for help. A few years ago, a nail polish brand called Undercover Colors released their wearable nail tech that helps detect the presence date-rape drugs by changing colors when dipped in spiked drinks.

WYNT, a Hot AC station in Marion, Ohio, states that Dr. Annelise Mennicke has been working on sexual assault prevention for more than seven years. She says that although these devices may be helpful tools, it’s going to take more than this to end sexual violence.

“If we just shifted from how to protect a victim to how to we equip a bystander I think we could make some real progress to keep these crimes from occurring,” Mennicke said. “The technology can add peace of mind, but the responsibility of prevention is on everyone,” she added.

Smart and wearable technology has made leap and bounds in recent years, developing applications that often go beyond just being able to monitor a person’s physical performance and fitness. Examples include research into the treatment of diseases, as well as in maintaining health in general. The technology can also be used to improve education standards, entertainment experiences and everyday activities.

We recently revealed how the International Data Corporation (IDC) reported that there were more than 101.9 million wearable devices sold in 2016. This represented a growth of around 29% over 2015. It has been estimated that the market will grow even further and sell at least 213.6 million units by 2020.

This bold idea is not only a welcomed addition by industry experts around the globe, but is also helping to propel technology forward at a rapid rate in the quest to find the latest solutions to pressing issues. The Bold Impact of applying technology across industries has been proven to improve lives. The possibilities for wearable tech are endless and will no doubt prove beneficial all around.

Billionaire Jim Clarke Funds Startup for Wired Homes

The founder of Netscape and WebMD has launched a new building management app called CommandScape, an app built with cybersecurity in mind. Billionaire Jim Clarke has a capital funding for startup business which devised an app to work in both residential and commercial properties. This bold idea is set to revolutionize online-based security by increasing defenses around home electronics and will protect users against cybercrime.

According to a study by Symantec, US companies are losing more than $525 million annually because of cybercrime. Attacks against organizations, businesses, and nations are now commonplace.

According to BISNOW, the innovative new platform heightens building security and improves control systems. The online and app-based system will allow home owners and property managers to “keep an eye on assets” and manage their building from anywhere.

“CommandScape is created with cybersecurity in mind and uses encryption to allow consumers to connect to the system instantly in addition to preventing unauthorized access. Users can remotely allow or deny access to specific rooms and areas in a building,” the website states.

The app was launched on August 22 and is already sending positive waves through the tech industry. Based on the report by BISNOW, the system can “control lighting and shade, conduct video surveillance and incorporate motion detection. In the future, it will feature building management controls, including network monitoring, climate control, energy monitoring, access control, home entertainment, and multimedia.”

Experts state that this latest invention is the key to securing the safety of internet of things (IoT), preventing cybercrime, eliminating hacks, and controlling everything from one centralized location.

The increase in IoT gadgets being controlled via online platforms has led to an increased susceptibility of attack. CommandScape claims to be the answer to this problem.

Bold Business recently revealed how cybercrime and ransomware attacks are becoming a major problem in the United States, so much so that the FBI has made tackling the issue their number one priority.

Results show that the amount US departments are spending on protecting against cyber attacks is extremely low, too low in fact. Only the Department of Homeland Security spends more that 3% of its budget on cybersecurity. Figures show that a staggering 11 federal departments spent less than 1% of their budget on cybersecurity in 2015.

Government budgets have now increased to help protect not only government systems but also the public network, but there is still a long way to go.

According to a study by Symantec, US companies are losing more than $525 million annually because of cybercrime. Attacks against organizations, businesses, and nations are now commonplace.

To help combat cyber attacks, new security measures are devised right around the world on a daily basis. As we previously highlighted, as soon as a security firm manages to protect an organization, hackers will find a way to break through.

This bold idea by one of the tech industry’s top innovators is certainly one of the best online-based security systems to be released in recent times. By securing IoT within the home or commercial buildings, including computer systems, it is by far one of the greatest proposals put forward for tackling cybercrime.

Space & Rocket Center, $10 Million Grant

The US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama has received a $10 million economic development grant for education, to develop its Cyber Camp and to construct a new building. The new investment fund is set to have a bold impact on the lives of students within the state and beyond, who will benefit from advanced and bespoke technological know-how.

The Space Center is already seeing more than 50,000 entering the space center’s camps and programs each year, and they say it’s now time to expand visitor numbers from all across America.

According to Alabama news source AL.com, one of America’s most important space exhibition centers and museums is pumping their investment into educating students on technologies of today as well as how to conquer space.

“In order to have a workforce that is prepared for the 21st century and can fill jobs in the 21st century, we must train our students and young people in technology, and the efforts of the US Cyber Camp do just that,” Governor Kay Ivey said.

The governor said that the fund comes in light of renewed interest in the space center. Ivey revealed that the Army, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Homeland Security, NASA, and National Security Agency (NSA) are all interested in participating in these programs. “The need to expand the US Cyber Camp is real, and it is important,” she added.

The space center is one of America’s largest tourist attractions and currently houses a Space Camp, Space Academy, and Aviation Challenge. The center held its first cyber camp in the summer of 2017 with 32 students from across Alabama who were selected by their teachers.

The University of Alabama in Huntsville and Cyber Huntsville are the Center’s partners; all three are keen on ensuring the youth of today are fully educated in the latest tech innovations so they can succeed in a highly competitive job market.

The Space Center is already seeing more than 50,000 entering the space center’s camps and programs each year, and they say it’s now time to expand visitor numbers from all across America.

“To meet the growing demand and expand the outreach of our mission to inspire the next generation of explorers and leaders, the rocket center must grow,” Space Center CEO Dr. Deborah Barnhart said. “We need more classrooms, more simulation space.”

As well as an increase in space camp and educational programs, the Center will benefit from the construction of a new building which will provide more space for the Center and its museum.

Governor Ivey said the funds for the grant came from Alabama’s 666 Fund. The strangely-named fund was established by voters in 2000 to invest some of the royalties paid by natural gas and oil companies active off Alabama’s gulf coast. A nine-person board headed by Governor Ivey approves the investment grants each year.

Not only will the Space Center have a bold impact on the lives of students all over America, but will also help educate and train the next generation of innovators to ensure the country is at the forefront of technological progression worldwide.
